Civil
Quantum’s civil team has a strong history delivering civil infrastructure across Western Australia’s mining regions, with in-depth local knowledge of the Pilbara, Goldfields and South West.
Earthworks
Our earthworks team works closely with geotechnical engineers to get the best outcome from material already available on site — balancing cost, program and ground conditions rather than defaulting to imported material or an over-specified surface finish. That means understanding what a borrow pit or in-situ material can actually support, and designing the earthworks program around it.

Roads, Haul Roads and Rail
Mine-site roads and haul networks aren’t built to council standards — they’re built to production and equipment requirements, often to internal client specifications rather than MRWA. We design for the vehicles that will actually use them, from light vehicles to autonomous haul fleets.

Surface Water and Drainage
Managing surface water on a mine site means understanding how water moves across a footprint that’s constantly changing as the pit and waste landforms develop. We build hydraulic and hydrology models to assess flood risk and inform surface water management plans, then translate that into drainage design on the ground — culverts, open drains and floodways, detention and retention basins, sedimentation controls, and underground pit and pipe networks — so water is managed safely without disrupting production. We also support dewatering and site water balance work as part of the broader water picture.
Utility Design
We design the underground services that support mine site operations — water, sewer and drainage reticulation, and electrical and communications conduits and pits — coordinated with the wider civil design so trenching, clearances and service corridors are resolved before construction starts, rather than clashing with earthworks or roads once work is underway.
Non-Process Infrastructure
Non-process infrastructure — the supporting facilities a mine site needs to operate day to day — is design work specific to the mining sector, from concept through to construction support and commissioning:

Workshop and Maintenance Facilities
We design heavy vehicle and light vehicle workshop and maintenance facilities on live, operating mine sites — multidisciplinary packages spanning civil, structural, architectural, hydraulics and plumbing, compressed air, electrical and communications, delivered to fast-tracked programmes and tied into existing site infrastructure without disrupting operations.
Pilot Plants
We design pilot plants ranging from lab-scale rigs through to full-sized equipment, giving clients a way to validate process methods and test ore bodies before committing to a full plant investment.
Structural, Mechanical and Piping
Most of our structural, mechanical and piping work happens on live, operating mine sites — extending, modifying or replacing plant infrastructure while production continues around it. That brownfield context shapes how we work: understanding what’s already there before we design what’s next, tying new structure and equipment into existing infrastructure without disrupting operations, and managing the access, isolation and safety constraints that come with working around live plant. We apply the same discipline on new-build (greenfield) work, where the challenge shifts from tying into the existing site to getting the sequencing and interfaces right from a clean start.
Mechanical
Our mechanical scope centres on the equipment that moves and stores material through a plant — conveyors, transfer points and headchutes, and bins and hoppers — including structural support, chute geometry and wear management, and the tie-in points back into existing structure and process flow on a brownfield site.
